5-DAY NORTHERN TANZANIA BUDGET SAFARI – OVERVIEW

5 Days 4 Nights

This 5-day adventure takes you through the most iconic national parks of Northern Tanzania—Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara. Designed for travelers seeking an immersive wildlife experience on a budget, this safari offers comfortable lodging, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

From the elephant-rich plains of Tarangire to the endless savannahs of the Serengeti, the wildlife-packed Ngorongoro Crater, and the lush forests of Lake Manyara, this itinerary covers the best of Tanzania’s northern circuit.

Depart Arusha early in the morning and drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its massive baobab trees and one of the highest elephant populations in Tanzania. Enjoy a full-day game drive, spotting wildlife such as lions, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, ostriches, and many bird species.

By late afternoon, exit the park and continue to Mto wa Mbu, a lively multicultural village. Overnight at Fanaka Lodge, offering comfortable budget rooms, hot showers, and a peaceful environment.

After an early breakfast, depart for the legendary Serengeti National Park, home to the Great Migration (seasonal) and a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, elephants, and wildebeest. The drive itself is scenic, passing through the Ngorongoro Highlands and the rural Maasai countryside. Upon arrival in the park, embark on an afternoon game drive, spotting wildlife across the expansive savannah plains. Overnight is at Nyani Campsite, a budget-friendly camping option within the park, giving you a closer-to-nature experience.

Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti, with morning and afternoon game drives. The park’s endless plains are perfect for observing predators in action and large herbivore herds. Depending on the season, you may witness the migration of wildebeest and zebras. Picnic lunches are enjoyed in designated areas while watching wildlife. Return to Nyani Campsite for an overnight stay, experiencing the tranquility of the Serengeti under the stars.

Depart the Serengeti early and drive towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, famous for the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the world’s largest intact volcanic craters. Descend into the crater for a half-day game drive, where wildlife congregates around waterholes including lions, rhinos, elephants, and buffalo. After an unforgettable wildlife experience, drive back to Fanaka Lodge in Mto wa Mbu for overnight accommodation.

After breakfast, head to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its tree-climbing lions, large flocks of flamingos, hippos, and diverse birdlife. Enjoy a morning game drive exploring the park’s different habitats, from dense forests to the lake shores. After the safari, drive back to Arusha in the afternoon, concluding your 5-day adventure.
